He has spots everywhere, and some are from before I was even born. I’ve lots of met older writers, and I tell them that I respect OILER and they always have something positive to say. He has many heaven spots (tags on high, usually unreachable places) and I have always respected his bravery. (I’m pretty sure this man is not afraid of any rollercoaster, haha). I’ve been drawing & art since I was a little kid. I used to stay up all night drawing band logos and anime characters & playing with Paint Shop Pro. *laughs* My uncle used to be a graffiti writer in the 90s, during what I call the “bus mobber” era in Los Angeles/Orange County & told me stories. I figured, “why not?” and I got started from there. I used to illegally paint for a while until I found myself in A LOT of trouble. My mom sat me down and told me “You’re talented at what you do. So why do you scribble it on the 605 freeway?” and she handed me a canvas and told me to piece my name. From then on, I’ve done rooms for people, custom canvases and even a couple of art shows. </em></p> <p><em><strong>B: Is there anyone who you look up to graffiti/artist-wise? Any influences?</strong></em></p> <p><em>Fatima: Growing up, i heard many stories about CHAKA & TRIXTER, so they play a big influence for me getting into graffiti. I used to illegally paint, so I looked up to BLAH, JERK, SCRIPT, basically anyone I would see up alot. Artwise, I love Ernie Barnes, Keith Haring, Whitney Lenox, SAND, & NORM MSK AWR. </em></p> <p><em><strong>B: Do you think music plays a part in graffiti? Does it play a part in your artwork? </strong></em></p> <p><em>Fatima: I would say to an extent. I know graffiti is one of the four elements of hip-hop. I think it might grasp your attention if you’re normally not into hip-hop, but I don’t think it necessarily means you have to be into hip-hop to appreciate it. As for myself, music plays a big part because part of the reason I got into graffiti & lettering was from drawing band logos. At the time, I was into alot of punk rock, and I’d attempt to recreate logos from bands like <strong>Rancid</strong>, <strong>The Casualties</strong> and <strong>Suicidal Tendencies</strong>. Thank you God my mom knew what’s up & didn’t think I had actual suicidal tendencies *laughs*. My uncle put me on to hip-hop and he gave me a copy of The <strong>Luniz’s Operation Stackola</strong> and I would draw that logo and add shadows and colors to it, so I guess you can say that was my first start at piecing. </em></p> <p><strong><em>B: Do you have any future plans with your art? Or is it just a hobby?<br/><br/></em></strong><em>Fatima: I definitely want to do a lot more shows. I’m only 20, so I have lots of time. I want to finish college, get my degree & open a restaurant and showcase not only my work but other local artists’ work. When I’m older, maybe become an art curator and open a gallery for all the inner city kids who don’t have that motivation or outlet to want to be creative. </em></p> <p><strong><em>B: Well it was great questioning you!
